Since 2016 a serious effort has been underway to devise a long-term plan to conserve, restore and protect the Japanese Bridge at South Ferry Hills. In order to undertake a conservation and restoration plan for the bridge a three-phase plan has been organized.
Phase I, now completed and paid for, consisted of extensive concrete probe investigation, reinforcing bar scanning and testing to verify the condition of the bridge. - $49,000 raised
Phase II, partially completed and paid for, consists of the execution of a prototype handrail/balustrade interface assembly and the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and field work.
Phase III consists of full implementation of restoration repair and conservation based on prototype options spelled out in Phase II. Professional fundraising to address the larger needs of this major restoration.
