Planned Projects

After an assessment of the Smith-Ransome Japanese Bridge by the Steward Preservation Services, we have determined a number of projects that must be completed in order to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge. These projects address the overall deterioration conditions, the areas of instability and possible liability, and the projected longevity of the bridge.

01. Concrete Abutments Repair

A degree of undercutting from washout has occurred on the west embankment and needs to be corrected. We plan to infill/grout all void areas, install rip-rap, and repair abutment walls to ensure stabilization of the bridge from potential settlement over time.

02. Balustrade Deterioration Remediation

The condition of the balustrades is failing, to a severe degree in many locations, and appears to be repeating earlier cyclical deterioration mechanisms. We plan to remove/replace central shafts of all deteriorated/previously repaired balusters.
